This is not a bad idea. But first they should make sure that they have enough bread to go around for every child. And then think of buying laptops for every child.

Is open office really compatible with MS Office. You will surely need this feature for it to be useful.

Angela,

There's some good opensource ERP software, I don't know too much but OpenBrave, Compiere and Adiempiere have gotten good reviews. That'll keep your accounting and most other parts of your business under control.

To ensure it retains WiFi passwords, go to Network Connections >> Properties and change Start Mode to 'On boot'.

Also, to get a Terminal window press Ctrl-Alt-T.

Thanks, Adam. I've been told by other users that there is a setting somewhere which enables one to specify that it remembers WiFi connections. Haven't located it yet -- so it's not an update problem.

I have an Asus EeePC PC4G and mine retains wireless password/(WEP/WAP Keys) on both shutdown, sleep or whatever. Not sure what problem you're having or if it's an issue with a subsequent update (This one was first generation).

I have had absolutely NO problems with Leopard. And neither has any of my Apple comrades. I would say that the Leopard rumors are just that. It actually runs better on my Mac. the upgrades are awesome.

Vista, on the other had is 3 times larger than XP was. Just to give you an idea of how overloaded it is. Stuffed with lots of junk. I bought a copy and upgraded one of my PC laptops. It ran about 3 times slower than XP, so I dumped it and put XP back on. XP is great. There should be no need to upgrade to Vista.

Between the two computers, the MAC is my favorite. I can do more with it using less software. I use my PC only for games now.
