CMS are software packages which enable the creation and management of database-driven web sites (like this one). There’s a very informative and thorough review by Elliot Smith of six currently available Open Source packages — Drupal, Exponent, Lenya, Mambo, Plone and Silva. (Don’t ask me where they get these names!)

14|Dec|2005 1Good to see this site back online.
I have used Drupal on a couple of sites, and am a little surprised that WordPress has been chosen to run Living Without Microsoft on - multi user blogging is much easier with Drupal, IMO, though I use WordPress for my personal blog.

14|Dec|2005 2Yes, Drupal might have been better, but in the end it came down to choosing something simple (we’d had a lot of problems with PostNuke) and familiar (we both use WordPress for our blogs) because we didn’t have too much time to spend on it!
We may live to regret this, of course, and spend more time in future than we saved now!

14|Dec|2005 3WordPress is still a great bit of software. Am sure it will all be fine!
One thing though, with multiple contributors it might be necessary to identify which user wrote which article. This can easily be done by removing the comment tags round the following:
by <?php the_author() ?>
in the ‘Main Template’ in Kubrick. HTH.

21|Dec|2005 5The Release Candidate version of WordPress 2.0 has been released and, having set up a test blog, it looks pretty good!
